And this is my chart.
I'm a magically-oriented bibliophile, interdisciplinary researcher, and artist by nature.
I love complex systems and have spent the majority of my life thinking about and across ecological, social, and political economic structures. I work towards justice, transformation, and joy.
Digging into astrology and human design has brought a much larger and more sensitive frame to my understanding of the world and my own life. More than that, it has helped me make practical decisions on a daily basis.
In human design, I'm a 3/5 generator with sacral authority.
That means I'm here to respond to life (generator strategy), trusting the wisdom of my sacral life force energy (sacral authority) to guide me.
Generator
As a generator I need to wait to respond in order to be living out the benefits of my design. When I first found out that I was a generator I was afraid that it meant I couldn’t initiate anymore. As an Aries rising person with a lot of cardinal astrological placements, being an initiator was pretty core to my identity.
But after reflection and experimentation, I can say with 100% confidence that I
am better when I initiate in response to life.
Hands down, my best work has come in response. Whether I’m responding to the needs of the community, the birds, the garden, my friends, my clients, events… the work flows better, with more inspiration, and with more support (both mundane and cosmic) when I’m in response.
Sacral Authority
Alongside responding, integrating decision-making guidance from human design has been transformational for me. I’m a Libra- we’re known to be indecisive. But I also have a lot of open centers (the ones in white in the bodygraph above) which means I have a lot of “not-self” conditioning rattling around in my head when I make decisions.
Within the human design system, I am in alignment when I follow my body’s in-the-now sacral response of “yes” or “no”, watching the rise and fall of my energy towards or away from the object of my attention. I have to say this was not easy for me at first (there is a lot to be said about impediments to trusting the body’s response here, but I’ll tackle that in a different post). Ultimately, following my body’s authority has taken a lot of weight off my mind and dramatically reduced the decision-fatigue I was always walking around with.
3/5 Profile: The Martyr Heretic
As a 3/5 profile I’m here to experiment with life (3 line) giving everything a try, striving and failing over and over again in order to gain wisdom and make personal experience transpersonal to help others (5 line). The 3/5 profile can be tough but it is a great profile for experimenters of all kinds such as artists and researchers.
While at first I balked at having a profile that was so full of running into walls and making and breaking bonds (I think I might have even cried, honestly), I have come to realize the power of the profile and the magic of all the lives I’ve been able to live.
I’ve been a cheesemaker, a scientist, a teacher, a farmer, a prop maker, a graphic designer, a painter, a fiber artist and the list goes on. Walking many paths of life has profoundly shaped the way I think about the world and the kind of knowledge, experience, and awareness I bring to bear in my work.
Finding out that I have an unconscious 5 line illuminated so much for me. 5 lines have a special relationship to projection; they can go from being the savior or hero to the “heretic” that is cast out or metaphorically (at least these days) burned alive. What’s key for 5 line people is to understand that they are at their best when they can bring practical, tangible results and problem-solving to the table.
Whether on research teams, on farms, or on committees, I’ve always brought the most value and been the most celebrated when I’ve been able to help the group problem solve, and work hard (with appropriate boundaries and expectations) to produce something practical. Now as a consultant I love sharing human design because at its core it is an embodied, practical and experimental system.
This Blog
In accordance with my own strategy and authority, I’ll be writing this blog in response. All my blog posts will be in response to patterns that are arising across many client charts. For instance, many clients have shared gates, channels, astrological configurations etc., and I’ll be commenting on those larger shared patterns without linking identifying information to any individual chart, or singling out any chart. The first will be a post about the creative process in human design and gate 1, a gate that many clients and I share.
If you think of a topic or question you’d like me to respond to in the blog, let me know in an email and I can address it.

The Guest House
~Rumi
This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all! Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture, still, treat each guest honorably. He may be clearing you out for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice, meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.
